Freedom Ramble

Today is the fifth of November, international "Scare the Hell out of Your Government" day.

In these days of police spying on journalists and spy agencies collecting meta data on citizens one must  use caution in day to day dealings with those in power and with those whose dealings with you could be misconstrued.

Think about that for a moment.

Let's say you are on vacation in London England and are walking down a street in the middle of the day looking for a pub to have a pint. Being the jovial person you are and on vacation too you stop and ask directions from a person on the street. After he has imparted his views on the local pubs and what they have to offer you are on your way. Before walking away you thank the fellow and shake his hand.

Little did you know that in England, with it's huge system of surveillance devices where there are one CCTV camera for every eleven people, they had you under the microscope because you shook hands with a stranger. So to find out what connection, if any, you have with the bad guy all your electronic dealings (banking, social media, blogs etc.) are looked at. Added to this is the electronic reading of your body language and presto you are in a room explaining yourself and your relationship to the bad guy.

Once it was not this way, in our free society we were actually free without the need to be looking over our collective shoulder for signs of big brother. Unfortunately we live under the law of  social entropy:
The more Ordered, thus unnatural, anti-entropic, a society, the more Social Energy is required to maintain the unnatural condition. And how is this Social Energy to be obtained? Why, by so ordering the society as to produce it! Which, as you can see, requires more Order in return. Which creates a demand for more Social Energy, and so forth, in a geometric progression that spirals as long as the society attempts to achieve Order.”
Norman Spinrad, author - Agent of Chaos
While our collective situation really isn't that bad... yet, it's getting worse. It seems every say there is some new law, by-law, order in counsel, statute, regulation whatever being fostered upon us for our own good. When you look at the total amount of words in the ten commandments verses an amount of regulations that if placed in book form are enough to build a house one has to ask how much guidance do we as adults need?

So in honor of this day all I will say is what I have been doing and will continue to do in my dealings with big brother. My first thing is to ask why something is the way it is. If I can stomach the reason I live with the answer. But if I can't, I don't even try to abide with what ever edict has been placed in my way. I guess in my own way this makes me one of Heinlein's rational anarchists. The world needs more of these rational anarchists so why don't you join me?

That's it for me from up here North of Disorder.
