Three Hours

When the tragic events took place in Orlando on the weekend one fact that a lot of people are choosing to ignore is starting to raise it's head. In any emergency when seconds count the police are minutes or in this case three hours away. Now stop and think about that for a moment, three hours away.  When I was still working it took me one hour and forty five minutes to drive one hundred and twenty nine kilometres to work

In Florida I am given to believe that in bars and nightclubs there is legislation in place that prevents patrons from carrying a concealed firearm. I can see the flawed reasoning here. There is the risk of a drunk shooting up a place. This reasoning is based upon the logic of arrogance, predicting peoples behaviours based upon wishful thinking not on reality. For example one can go to an axe throwing event and bring beer to drink while tossing axes at targets. Yes, throw axes while drinking beer. With the logic employed in Orlando there should be a lot of axe injuries or fatalities but there aren't.

The saddest thing about all this is the needless loss of 49 lives. I wonder how many would have survived if not for that three hour delay, if not for the restrictions placed on the club sheep patrons.  The lesson from this is simple, in an active shooter event don't count on outside help. The odds are help will be coming about as quickly as the glaciers in Greenland are retreating. You can do one of two things, cower in a hidden spot in a pool of you own fear generated urine and wait to die or act.

That's about all for this subject from me. I'm signing off from up here North of Disorder.
